About

My Ukulele Journey

Denise’s passion for music and community blossomed into a joyful ukulele journey that brings people of all ages together through song. What began as a personal exploration of the ukulele quickly grew into a heart-centered mission: to create connection, confidence, and creativity through music.

She now teaches beginner ukulele classes for older adults, where patience and encouragement meet playful instruction. Her classes are designed to empower seniors—many of whom are picking up an instrument for the first time—by making learning approachable, fun, and meaningful. Each session includes simple chords, sing-along songs, and plenty of laughter.

At the same time, Denise shares her love of music with younger generations through Mimi MusicWorks, where she and Sal (as Mimi and Papa) perform engaging musical programs for preschoolers. Her approach blends education with entertainment, offering children a foundation in rhythm, melody, and movement.

From senior centers to circle time with toddlers, Denise’s ukulele is a bridge across generations. Whether she’s leading a sing-along, creating lesson materials, or helping others find their voice, her ukulele is more than an instrument—it’s a tool for healing, joy, and connection.

A Dream of Music and Community

Our story began in 2016 with a ukulele and a dream. Driven by a love for music and a desire to share it with others, we started teaching small groups of seniors.

From Small Groups to Big Smiles

It began with teaching small groups of older adults, helping them strum their first chords and sing their favorite tunes. Along the way, the joy of music spread further, from seniors to children, from living rooms to community centers.

Building Connections Through Every Strum

Each lesson isn't just about learning an instrument—it is about building connections. Whether leading a sing-along, creating rhythm circles, or guiding a group performance, every moment brought people closer, weaving new friendships through shared music.

Sal

Sal sang his way through college in a rock ‘n’ roll band and always kept his passion for music close to his heart. After raising his kids and wrapping up a long career, retirement gave him the perfect chance to start a brand-new chapter—returning to the stage. He performed with Reunited and later with The Jersey Shades, bringing his smooth vocals and harmonies to every show. Now, he’s teamed up with Denise as part of the Mimi Music Works team. She brings the heart, he brings the harmony, and together they’re spreading joy, one sing-along at a time!

Though she jokes that Sal is the seasoned singer, Denise’s natural warmth, energy, and ability to connect with an audience shine just as brightly. Whether it’s a classic kids’ tune or a timeless favorite from the ’50s, ’60s, or ’70s, Denise brings her whole heart—and a whole lot of fun—to every performance.
